Why the Road is Closed: Azerbaijan's Border Guard Service Informs Armenian National Security Service

The National Security Service of Armenia reports that negotiations are being held between the border troops of the NSS of Armenia and the border guards of the Federal Security Service of Russia regarding the reopening of the sections of the Goris-Kapan interstate road that have been closed since August 26, specifically the Goris-Vorotan and Shurnukh-Karmirakar segments.

Furthermore, the National Security Service of Armenia announces that Azerbaijan's State Border Service has provided information to the Armenian side that an attack occurred on one of their checkpoints.

Currently, the border troops of the NSS of Armenia are conducting operational-intelligence and search activities based on the information provided by the Azerbaijani side. Efforts to reopen the road are ongoing.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that Azerbaijan's State Border Service disseminated information claiming that two Armenian servicemen allegedly attacked an Azerbaijani soldier in the southeastern section of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and inflicted injuries with a shovel.

"This information is absolutely false and is yet another piece of disinformation from the Azerbaijani side. Such an incident involving Armenian Armed Forces personnel did not occur," the statement reads.
