We Have Found Ourselves Blockaded: Leader of Bardaravan

Several villages in the Syunik region have found themselves blocked due to the actions of the Azerbaijani side. One of these is the village of Bardaravan. In an interview with Factinfo, village leader Onik Avagyan stated that the roads from Chayzami village, near Shurnukh, as well as the roads leading to Vorotan and David Bek villages, are currently closed. It is not possible to travel from Goris to Kapan and vice versa at this time.

“We have found ourselves blockaded. This is our current status,” said Onik Avagyan.

Since midnight, when the Goris-Kapan interstate road was closed, the village leader personally went to inspect the road towards Shurnukh. He stayed on the road for over two hours, trying to understand what was happening, but was unable to gather any information. They remained stuck until help arrived.

“The roads were blocked near Shurnukh. Many trucks and passenger vehicles were stranded. We were concerned to understand why the roads were closed. Later, they opened the road, but closed it again in the morning. Currently, the road from David Bek is also closed, as well as the road from Vorotan leading to Goris,” he stated.

The closure of the roads has created a number of problems in the village. Bread was supplied from Goris via that route. Medical assistance also reaches residents with a two-hour delay.

“There are serious problems. If we call an ambulance today, it will take a minimum of two hours to arrive. The roads towards Tatev are in very poor condition. If they take two hours, it will take four or five hours in total, which makes it pointless. Regarding food, well, the villagers have stocked up on food at home. The bread issue is what we always brought from Goris. We keep in touch with the mayor's office, and if necessary, food will be delivered,” he added.

He noted that currently, it is not possible for ordinary vehicles to travel via the only alternative route, as it is suitable only for off-road vehicles.

The administrative head did not have information about ongoing negotiations to reopen the roads but only knew that discussions would continue with the Russian side.
