Tri-Party Negotiations Continue Over Goris-Kapan Road Opening

The tri-party negotiations regarding the opening of the Goris-Kapan interstate road are ongoing between the Armenian, Russian, and Azerbaijani parties. This was announced by the mayor of Kapan, Gevorg Parsyan, in an interview with Armenpress.

According to the mayor, apart from the closure of the road, no extraordinary incidents have occurred during this period, and the current situation has not impacted the communities in the Kapan region. Gevorg Parsyan has no idea when the negotiations will conclude or what results they will yield, but he has emphasized the necessity of a positive outcome.
"I can only say that a positive result from the negotiations is a critical necessity because this is a very important road for us and for Armenia in general," said the mayor of Kapan.

The National Security Service of Armenia had reported that on August 25 at around 23:00, the Azerbaijani side closed the Karmrakar-Shurnukh section of the Kapan-Goris interstate road. According to the NSS statement, vehicles in that area have been evacuated, and efforts are underway to reopen the road and restore the normal movement of people and vehicles.
Later, Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan reported that Azerbaijani armed forces had also closed the road from Goris to Vorotan in the Syunik region of Armenia.
