Access to Food and Medical Services for Syunik Residents Severely Restricted Due to Azerbaijani Criminal Acts, Ombudsman
The Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan states, “The availability of food and medical services has been severely restricted for villagers due to the blocking of roads by Azerbaijani armed forces in Syunik. Specifically, the connection between the villages of Shurnukh, Vorotan, and Bardzravan in the Goris community, as well as the Nor Arajnadzor neighborhood in the Kapan community, has been significantly limited due to the illegal blocking of the main highway from Goris to Kapan by Azerbaijani armed forces in two sections.
As a result of these openly criminal acts by the Azerbaijani armed forces, the freedom of movement of the civilian population in the villages (including children, women, and the elderly) has been severely restricted. The villages are facing serious limitations on access to food and essential goods, as well as medical services, putting people at real risk of a humanitarian crisis.
The border forces of the RA National Security Service are working tirelessly to ensure and support the safety of the civilian population in the villages. All these facts have been confirmed through complaints received from the villages by the Human Rights Defender's office and conducted investigations.
Therefore, the Azerbaijani armed forces must immediately fully open the road and cease the mass violations of the rights of people and the civilian population caused by their criminal acts.”
