Turkey Begins Withdrawal of Troops from Afghanistan
The Turkish Ministry of Defense has announced the start of the process to withdraw Turkish military personnel from Afghanistan. This was reported by "RIA Novosti."
"Turkish soldiers, having successfully fulfilled their duties in Afghanistan, are returning home with honor," the statement from the defense ministry said.
Earlier, two Turkish officials told Reuters that representatives of the Taliban had approached Turkey for technical support in operating Kabul's airport, with the condition that Turkish armed forces, like other countries' military, would leave Afghanistan by the end of August. "The Taliban has requested technical assistance for operating Kabul's airport," a senior Turkish official stated, noting that the withdrawal of Turkish troops complicates the possibility of such a mission due to security risks.
