Russia Evacuates CSTO and Ukrainian Citizens from Afghanistan
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, following an order from Vladimir Putin, has organized the evacuation of citizens from Russia, other CSTO member countries, and Ukraine from Afghanistan. According to RIA Novosti, a total of over 500 people have been evacuated.
To address the issue, the ministry has formed an air group consisting of four military transport aircraft, which is based at Ulyanovsk Airport. The aircraft are equipped with military doctors, as well as supplies of water, food, and blankets.
It is important to note that Taliban militants (a terrorist organization banned in Russia and several other countries) entered the Afghan capital on August 15 and took control of the presidential palace. On the night of August 16, a representative of the Taliban’s political organization, Mohammad Naeem, announced that the war in Afghanistan was over, and the form of governance in the country would be clarified soon. The only province not under their control is Panjshir.
