Global Stabilization of COVID-19 Cases and Deaths: Should Vigilance Be Reduced?
Globally, the number of COVID-19 infections and related deaths has stabilized following approximately two months of growth. This was announced by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during a press conference in Geneva.
“After nearly two months of increasing new COVID-19 infection cases and deaths, the situation has stabilized in the past week,” he said. However, the WHO chief emphasized that this stabilization has occurred at a very high level of infections and deaths. During the week from August 16-22, over 4.5 million infections and more than 68,000 deaths were recorded worldwide.
