Pashinyan on Putin's Personal Involvement in Armenian-Russian Relations

Armenia will continue to strengthen and expand its allied relations and strategic partnership with Russia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this from the podium of the National Assembly. According to the Prime Minister, based on several agreements between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, the capabilities of the Russian 102nd military base in Armenia are being enhanced.

“Outposts of the Russian 102nd military base have been established in the regions of Goris and Sisian in Syunik. Russian border guards are participating in the protection of several state border sections of the Republic of Armenia. We are closely cooperating with Russia in the format of the working group for unblocking regional communications. Russia is involved in discussions regarding the situation in the Sotk-Khoznavar area. Russia is a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group and, of course, the presence of Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh is a key factor in ensuring security,” emphasized Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister raised serious concern about the fact that a strong anti-propaganda campaign is being generated against Russian peacekeepers in Azerbaijan and that actions are being taken. “I believe that the fact that our captured citizens are sentenced to long-term imprisonment by Azerbaijani courts also aims to discredit the Russian peacekeeping forces and the Russian peacekeeping mission,” added Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister noted that measures will be taken to further strengthen high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Russia, and to deepen cooperation with Russia within the frameworks of the EAEU, CSTO, CIS, and other multilateral formats.

“I must emphasize the special personal role played by President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation in the development of Armenian-Russian relations, ensuring security and stability in our region, halting the 44-day war, and facilitating the return of our prisoners. President Putin’s personal involvement and the reliable atmosphere that exists between us is a guarantee of the continuous increase in the effectiveness of Armenian-Russian relations,” concluded Pashinyan.
