PM Pashinyan Announces Casualty Figures from the 44-Day War

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the death toll on the Armenian side resulting from the 44-day war in Artsakh is 3,773, with the whereabouts of 243 servicemen still unknown. Pashinyan made this announcement during a discussion of the Government’s program in the National Assembly.

"I am presenting the Government’s activity program for 2021-2026 under extraordinary circumstances. The heavy consequences of the 44-day war in 2020, our 3,773 casualties during the war, the fact that the whereabouts of 243 soldiers are still unknown, the ongoing non-return of some of our captured soldiers, thousands displaced, the unusual and complex socio-economic situation created in Artsakh and Armenia, the escalating security challenges around Armenia and Artsakh, the crisis situation in the Sotk-Khoznavar region due to the illegal incursion of Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia, the frequent violations of the trilateral statement regarding the cessation of hostilities after November 9, resulting in new casualties, the international tense situation, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic make the environment in which we discuss the government program extraordinary," noted Pashinyan.

He added that this discussion should not only document the problems and challenges but also address their causes and origins, and most importantly, outline paths for solutions—short-term, medium-term, and also in terms of strategic perspective—because it is evident that Armenia is at a fateful and turning point, a juncture where the continuation will be decisive for our state and statehood.
