Human Rights Defender Addresses Government, Yerevan Municipality, and Law Enforcement Regarding Fizgorodok Events
The Human Rights Defender has reached out to the Government, Yerevan Municipality, and law enforcement bodies regarding the events at Fizgorodok, as reported by the Defender's office.
Summarizing the alerts received from residents and the rapid response visits made during the protests, the Human Rights Defender has sent letters to Yerevan Municipality and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia. In the letter directed to the latter, questions have been raised concerning the reasons for removing the disputed area of the park from the list of cultural heritage values.
Separate letters have also been sent to the Police and the Prosecutor's Office. Specifically, the correspondence addressed to Yerevan Municipality raised issues related to the privatization of the area and issues concerning building permits, while the law enforcement bodies were asked to address the legality of police actions during the protests, as well as the problems documented by the Human Rights Defender during the protests and in police stations.
