Armenia Has Concrete Agreements with Russia on Army Modernization

One of the key tasks for the Government of the Republic of Armenia remains the reform and modernization of the armed forces. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this during his speech at the discussion of the government program in the National Assembly.

“I must point out that some forces are trying to present our agenda for army reform as evidence of an intention to adopt an aggressive political stance or to start a war. This has no connection to reality because Armenia, like any peace-loving state, is developing and transforming its armed forces not for aggression, but for the legitimate and constitutional purpose of defending against aggression and protecting its sovereignty,” Pashinyan said.

According to him, the goal of the government regarding the armed forces is to implement continuous reforms that will ensure the fulfillment of constitutional missions by the military. “Armenia has no intention of conquering territories or starting a war,” the Prime Minister noted.

He emphasized that in the process of army modernization, collaboration with Armenia's strategic ally Russia is of great importance, noting that there are already concrete agreements in place with Russia.
