Vladimir Putin Awards Armenian Cardiologist-Surgeon
Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded Bagrat Alekyan, a renowned cardiologist-surgeon, with the Order of Alexander Nevsky for his contributions to fighting the coronavirus pandemic, as per his decree dated August 16 of this year.
Bagrat Alekyan is a world-renowned specialist. He serves as the chief expert in endovascular diagnostics and treatment at the Russian Ministry of Health. He holds multiple responsible positions within the Russian healthcare system. Since 1975, he has worked at the Scientific Center of Cardiovascular Surgery in Moscow. Since 1992, he has been the head of the Department of X-ray Surgical Methods for the Study and Treatment of the Heart and Blood Vessels, and since 1999, he has been the president of the endovascular surgeons' section of the Russian Society of Cardiovascular Surgeons.
Bagrat Alekyan is also the chairman of the problem commission on endovascular surgery in the Russian Ministry of Health and the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, as well as the president of the Scientific Society of Radiologists and Endovascular Surgeons since 2002. He is the head of the department for the research and treatment of heart and vessel diseases in the V.I. Burakovsky Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery at the A.N. Bakulev Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
He is the author of over 700 scientific works, including 11 monographs and books, focusing on the issues of endovascular diagnostics and treatment of heart and blood vessel disorders. For his scientific developments and their implementation, Bagrat Alekyan was awarded the Russian Government’s Prize in the Field of Science and Technology in 2015.
The angiographic service of the “Erebuni” Medical Center in Yerevan has been named after Bagrat Alekyan. Members of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences congratulate the distinguished scientist and physician, wishing him further scientific success.
