I am confident that justice will prevail in the end: Charchyan voluntarily presented himself to Vardashen Prison

The former director of Izmirlian Medical Center, member of the 'Armenia' political faction, Armen Charchyan has been detained. A short while ago, Armen Charchyan entered the Vardashen Prison.

“I am confident that, in the end, justice will prevail,” Charchyan said in a conversation with reporters outside the Vardashen facility.

It is noteworthy that the court today made the decision to detain Armen Charchyan without discussing the issue of his parliamentary immunity in the National Assembly.

“The two grounds on which the prosecutor submitted a request for my detention no longer exist; I am no longer working at Izmirlian Medical Center, and I am a member of the National Assembly whom they are unlawfully trying to deprive of freedom. The second ground was that I could influence the testimonies of witnesses. However, those testimonies have already been given, and moreover, the prosecutor said that they would not consider those testimonies as evidence; instead, they would consider the recording that exists.

If a person does not consider the testimony as a basis, then whether I influence or do not influence the witness, what is the importance? In any case, they will not be considered a basis. Thus, both grounds have been rendered pointless and no longer exist,” Charchyan told reporters.

He also mentioned that this decision was not unexpected for him: “Considering that the case was initially built on nothing, as well as the fact that I represent the 'Armenia' alliance, the decision was not unexpected,” Charchyan said.
