Residents of Armavir Block Yerevan-Ashtarak Highway Due to Irrigation Water Issues
A tense situation has persisted in the Armavir region for over an hour and a half. In the administrative area of Mrgavan village along the Ejmiatsin-Ashtarak highway, residents from several villages have gathered, demanding clear answers from the authorities of the Armavir water management organization regarding when they will receive the promised irrigation water.
According to Shamshyan.com, the residents temporarily blocked the road. Upon the arrival of police officers from the Vagharshapat department, led by Deputy Head Arthur Fishyan, negotiations commenced with the protesters. As a result, the villagers opened the road but promised that if the issue is not resolved, they would not cooperate with law enforcement again and would block the road with their families, including women and children.
In a conversation with a photojournalist, the villagers expressed: “For 6 days, the local water management has been deceiving us. They promise us water every day, and every day they shamelessly lie. Our crops in the fields are already drying up. We don't know whose door to knock on. We think that the water management company is doing this deliberately to make us protest against the Government. However, we are confident that if Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan learns about the issue, he will take stringent measures against them, setting an example so that next time, villagers won't be treated this way. Today, trusting the police, we opened the road because they promised that water would be provided by 8 AM tomorrow.”
