A New Drone Department to Be Established in the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff
The Republic of Armenia's General Staff will create a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Department. This decision was made by the Armenian government on August 19 through a written vote.
According to the published draft, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Department will be formed as a result of dividing the Aviation Department within the Armed Forces.
"The current developments in military technology, as well as the conduct of military operations in 2020, clearly demonstrated the need to pay more attention to the development of unmanned aerial vehicle systems and their management processes," the draft decision presented by the Ministry of Defense stated.
The written vote of the government also approved another decision proposed by the Ministry of Defense, which states that as a result of structural changes in the Armed Forces, the divisions of the Armenian Armed Forces will be dissolved, and the positions of division commanders will be reduced.
"Since the position of division commander is established as a basic military service position, the need has arisen to designate the position of the head of the V. Sargsyan Military University of the Ministry of Defense, which is equivalent to that group, as the main position instead of the division commander," the decision stated.
The process of dissolution of the divisions of the Armed Forces is expected to be completed by December 31, 2021.
It should be noted that these decisions are not the only projects confirmed on August 19. In addition to these, the government has also approved two other confidential projects presented by the Ministry of Defense, which are not disclosed.
