Russia Organizes Evacuation of Its Citizens from Afghanistan

The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Afghanistan is organizing the evacuation of Russian citizens from the country. According to Armenpress, the embassy announced this in a statement on its Twitter microblog.

“Please inform us of your intention to travel to the Russian Federation by the end of August 22, if possible, at the email address [email protected],” the statement reads.

The situation in Afghanistan has particularly worsened in recent weeks, with the Taliban launching attacks on major cities. On August 15, media reported that the insurgents controlled all border crossings. Later that same day, they announced that they had entered Kabul and taken control of the presidential palace.

Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani has left the country, stating it was to prevent bloodshed. In the night of August 16, a spokesperson for the Taliban, Mohammad Naeem, declared that the war in Afghanistan was over, and the form of governance in the country would be clarified soon.
