Weekly Teaching Hours to be Reduced by Teachers: Zhanna Andreasian
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasian, wrote on her Facebook page:
“The revision of the standards of general education implies changes not only in subject programs but also in the assessment system, the structure of teacher work, and consequently, in the formulation of classification. Changes are also being implemented in the approach to financing schools.
These changes will also be piloted starting this September in grades 2, 5, 7, and 10 in the Tavush region.
We have presented on the Ministry's website the educational plan prepared for the pilot, the assessment procedure, and the specifics of formulating classification plans.
In particular, for the teacher’s pay scale, the following approach will be piloted: in the pilot elementary classroom, one pay scale of the teacher—22 hours—will consist of 18 teaching hours per week and 4 hours allocated for necessary assessment work, taking into account the absence of point-based assessment and the volume of work required for non-point-based assessment. In middle and high school classes, the ratio becomes 20+2. This change aims to reduce the number of hours taught by the teacher per week, providing time for lesson planning and assessment work.”
