The Taliban Holds Its First Press Conference
Two days after capturing Afghanistan, the Taliban held its first press conference. Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced that under Sharia law, women will have their rights, though he did not provide further details, according to Al Jazeera.
Mujahid stated that Afghans who worked for foreign governments will not be harmed and have been granted amnesty. He also emphasized that the country is safe and will become increasingly secure, asserting that they do not wish for anyone to leave Afghanistan.
In response to a question about whether the country will harbor Al-Qaeda militants, Mujahid added that Afghanistan's land will not be used against anyone. The Taliban views the ongoing situation as an evolutionary process.
“Our country is a Muslim country, whether 20 years ago or now. However, when it comes to experience, maturity, and vision, there is a huge difference between now and our views from 20 years ago. The actions we are about to take are also different. This is an evolutionary process,” Mujahid stated. He further noted that after forming a government, the Taliban will decide what laws will be adopted for the people.
