Justice Will Be Restored, I Will Fulfill My Duties in the National Assembly: Former Mayor of Sisian
The head of the consolidated Sisian community, Artur Sargsyan, today announced the suspension of his powers. This statement comes as Sargsyan has been detained for a month. The statement is as follows:
“As a result of the elections held on June 20, I have been elected as a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia under the list of the ‘Hayastan’ alliance. It is true that, until now, my assumption of parliamentary powers has been unjustly obstructed; however, I am confident that justice will be restored very soon, and I will be able to fulfill my duties in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, contributing to the adoption of state-friendly and Armenian-beneficial laws.
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all those who, recognizing, believing, and trusting me, voted in favor of the ‘Hayastan’ alliance in the parliamentary elections, expecting our political team to continue the fight until victory. Our struggle is for a strong, secure, and prosperous state.
Dear Sisian residents, starting today, I am suspending my powers as the head of the consolidated Sisian community. I thank the employees of the municipality, community structures, council members, and administrative leaders for our past five years of intense and effective work together. The main goal of our work has been the development of the multi-populated Sisian community and the well-being of the citizens. Together, we have formulated and implemented many projects, accomplished various works, some of which are ongoing, and there is still much to be done.
I also want to thank all the residents of Sisian city and the 31 settlements included in the consolidated community. I will always be by the side of my native place and will live with the concerns of Sisian residents. We will see each other soon.
After all, we are granted only one life, and each of us must live a dignified life as Armenians for the sake of a free, independent Armenia. Peace and a secure future for the Republic of Armenia. All the best to you!”
Earlier, on July 17, we reported that Artur Sargsyan was detained for two months by the decision of the General Jurisdiction Court of Yerevan. He has been charged under the second part of Article 308 of the RA Criminal Code (abuse of official powers) and the first part of Article 314 (introducing false information or records in official documents by an official for selfish purposes or for personal motives or based on group interests, as well as forging or transferring false documents).
