Who Will Occupy the Position of Deputy Director of the NSS?
According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd", on August 4, President Armen Sarkissian signed a decree relieving Stepan Melkonyan from his position as Deputy Director of the National Security Service (NSS) due to reaching retirement age. This means that for the past two days, the position of Deputy Director of the NSS has been vacant.
As reported by "Zhoghovurd", there are active discussions within the NSS regarding who will fill Melkonyan's role. It is suggested that Kamo Aghajanyan, the former director of the NSS in Artsakh, might be appointed as the first deputy director of the NSS. Another possible candidate for the position is Major General Esayi Mkrtchyan, who is currently the head of the NSS intelligence department and is considered a professional in the system.
It is believed that the decision has been finalized, and thanks to the efforts of Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the “Civil Contract” faction in the National Assembly, Kamo Aghajanyan, the former director of the NSS in Artsakh, will be appointed as the new deputy director. Aghajanyan was the NSS director in Artsakh until he was relieved of his duties following the 44-day war.
