Bruises Appeared on Woman's Neck 24 Hours After Hospitalization for Stroke: Investigation Committee
On August 13, 2021, at 12:20 PM, the "Armavir" medical center received information regarding a 59-year-old woman who had been admitted on the evening of August 11, 2021, diagnosed with "stroke and pneumonia." She passed away around 10:30 AM on August 12. Subsequently, 24 hours after being transferred to the morgue, bruises appeared on her neck.
According to the forensic report, the cause of death was identified as mechanical asphyxia. Considering the materials prepared, there were legal grounds and reasons to initiate a criminal case. A criminal case was opened at the Armavir division of the Armenian Police under Part 1 of Article 104 of the RA Criminal Code, and it was forwarded to the Armavir regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia for further investigation.
During the preliminary investigation, urgent investigative and procedural actions were taken in collaboration with the relevant department of the Armenian Police, and several significant facts regarding the case were revealed, including the motive and the identity of the individual apparently committing the crime, a 23-year-old resident of Armavir.
It was established that on the day of the incident, a conflict occurred in the victim’s home between her and the 23-year-old man. During the altercation, the young man punched the woman several times in the face and head, then tightened a string that had keys hanging from it around her neck. Upon realizing the woman was not breathing, he fled the scene.
The young man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the 59-year-old woman and has been interrogated. The investigation continues. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, ensure an objective and comprehensive examination, and verify the details mentioned in witness statements.
