Shooting Near Grocery Store in Yerevan Targets 33-Year-Old Man
In Yerevan, near a grocery store on Verfel Street, an attempt was made to kill a 33-year-old man by firing shots at him with an automatic rifle. The assailant, a 28-year-old man, and the victim had previously experienced disagreements that escalated into personal enmity. The shots were fired using an illegally obtained AKM-type automatic rifle produced in 1960.
On the day of the incident, around 8:40 PM, the assailant approached the grocery store with a friend. Upon noticing that the 33-year-old victim, with whom he had a hostile relationship, had entered the store, the assailant retrieved the AKM-type rifle with 7.62 caliber ammunition from his friend's vehicle's trunk. He approached the store entrance and fired multiple shots at the victim, endangering the lives of two other individuals present in the store, including a female employee and a customer, before fleeing in his friend's car.
As a result of the gunfire, the victim sustained injuries in the form of gunshot wounds to the thighs and a torn exit wound in the gluteal area.
A criminal case has been initiated against the shooter under Article 34-104, part 2, clause 6 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia for attempted murder in a manner dangerous to many lives and for illegal possession of firearms under Article 235, part 1. Additionally, his friend, who drove the getaway car, faces charges under Article 334, part 1 of the Criminal Code for concealing a crime.
Pre-trial detention has been chosen as a measure of restraint for the assailant, while his friend has been released on bail. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the case has been sent to court with an approved indictment.
