Investigative Committee Reveals Details on Attempted Murder of City Council Member

On August 1, 2021, at 01:25 AM, a report was received from a citizen regarding a stabbing incident at one of the houses in the Nor Artamet community. At 01:30 AM the same day, medical institutions also reported that two individuals with bodily injuries were brought in for medical assistance, according to the Investigative Committee.

As a result of the measures taken, the identities of the injured individuals were established. One of them is Arman Antonyan, a member of the Yerevan city council, and the other is his grandfather, a resident of Nor Artamet village, born in 1934.

Preliminary information indicates that on August 1, 2021, around 01:00 AM, two masked individuals illegally entered Antonyan's residence in the Nor Artamet community, attacked him, and, coordinating their actions, inflicted stab and blunt force injuries to vital parts of his body, resulting in penetrating wounds to the chest and abdomen. They attempted to flee but encountered resistance from Antonyan's 87-year-old grandfather. One of the alleged assailants then inflicted stab wounds on the elderly man as well, causing an open wound to the head, bruising to the right and left lower eyelids, and cuts before fleeing the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated in accordance with part 1 of Article 118, part 1 of Article 147, and part 2 of Article 34-104, section 7 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia at the investigative division of the Investigative Committee of Kotayk province. Immediate investigative actions have been carried out, including an examination of the crime scene, interrogations of several individuals, seizure of security camera footage, and a forensic medical examination has been appointed. The investigation is ongoing. Measures are being taken to ascertain all circumstances of the case, identify the suspects, and present them to the prosecuting authority. Instructions have been given to the investigation body.
