Lavrov: Our Closest Neighbors and Fraternal Peoples Are Being Forced to Choose Between the West and Russia
Western countries are attempting to create a zone of instability around Russia at the expense of its closest neighbors, including Belarus, Ukraine, and Moldova. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as reported by RT.
“They are trying to create a zone of instability around us by forcing our closest neighbors, fraternal peoples, to choose. Either you are with the West, or you are with the Russian Federation. They wish to appropriate areas surrounding our country in various ways, both militarily and economically, and to encircle us with a sanitary cordon, even benefiting from Western influence over the development of our neighboring countries,” the diplomat said while addressing deputies of the “United Russia” party.
This pattern has been “most visibly manifested in Ukraine,” while methods of “color revolutions” have been attempted recently in Belarus, added Lavrov.
Additionally, he stated that “Americans and Europeans” have begun a geopolitical struggle for Moldova, “not shying away from overt propaganda during the election campaign.”
“Now our Western partners are also trying to expand their presence, including military, along our borders, including Central Asia and the Caucasus,” he concluded.
