Investigative Committee Clarifies Circumstances of Sukiasyan's Brother Firing Shots on Amiryan Street
The Investigative Committee's Main Department for Especially Important Cases has clarified several circumstances surrounding the hooliganism incident that occurred on July 18, 2021, on Amiryan Street in Yerevan, including the identity of the alleged perpetrator, Robert Sukiasyan, a resident of Yerevan. He is the younger brother of the well-known businessman Khachatur Sukiasyan, who is included in the ruling ‘My Step’ alliance.
According to the Investigative Committee, the investigation revealed that Robert Sukiasyan engaged in a dispute with Narik Karapetyan and his friend around 7:15 PM on July 18, 2021, over a sound signal given by Karapetyan’s wife to his acquaintance. During the confrontation, Sukiasyan and his group displayed blatant disrespect towards society, shouting insults and exchanging blows.
During the altercation, fueled by the desire to assert his superiority, Robert Sukiasyan struck Karapetyan in the face with his head and then his fist. Subsequently, he removed and provocatively loaded a 9x17 caliber Browning type combat pistol legally belonging to him and fired two shots towards Karapetyan's feet, creating a climate of fear among bystanders.
Afterwards, Sukiasyan also fired a shot at Karapetyan's friend, causing a gunshot wound to the right tibia, and then fled the scene. Based on the gathered sufficient evidence, Robert Sukiasyan has been charged under part 4 of Article 258 of the RA Criminal Code. A petition has been submitted to the court to select arrest as a preventive measure, which has been granted.
The investigative body has also made a decision to arrest Narik Karapetyan, and the execution has been assigned to the appropriate subdivision of the RA Police. The pre-trial investigation continues.
