At Least 25 People Have Died Due to Flooding in China

At least 25 people have died due to flooding in Zhengzhou, a city in China's central Henan province. This information was reported by the authorities during a press conference on July 21, which was broadcast by the Xinhua agency. According to preliminary data, seven people are considered missing.

Since July 16, heavy rains and flooding have affected 1.24 million residents of Henan province. In a press briefing on July 21, Zhao Lijian, a spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry, stated that authorities have not received any information regarding foreign nationals among the deceased or injured as a result of the natural disaster.

Continuous heavy rains in Henan province have led to the onset of flooding. On July 20, a train in the metro tunnel of Zhengzhou city's administrative center was inundated, resulting in the deaths of 12 individuals, with five others injured. Authorities in the city of Gunyi, located east of Zhengzhou, reported four fatalities due to a breach in one of the city's dams. In response, local authorities have declared a Level 1 emergency response, and the Ministry of Emergency Management of China elevated the threat level from three to two.
