Two Injured in Verin Shorja: National Security Council Secretary

Today, two servicemen were injured as a result of gunfire in the border area of Verin Shorja, Gegharkunik Province. The news was announced by the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, during a broadcast on public television.

According to him, this is yet another provocation organized by Azerbaijan. Fortunately, the Armenian servicemen sustained minor injuries.

“In our opinion, some statements made earlier by the CSTO might have had a certain impact. Because our main concern was about remarks made by Mr. Zas in the interview, which could have a negative effect on the peace resolution process. We believe that such statements give Azerbaijan a certain rationale for provoking incidents, and that is why we have started discussions to prevent such statements in the future,” Grigoryan noted.

He emphasized that the stability of the border is currently fragile. Significant efforts are being made to create an environment and conditions that would help avoid such incidents in the future.

“At this moment, specific negotiations are underway to deploy Russian border forces on the border and prevent such incidents. The process has begun, but we have not yet managed to reach a complete solution; nevertheless, we hope to continue the negotiations and, in the near future, establish a situation where Russian border troops will be deployed in the area where the crisis began on May 12, followed by demarcation and delimitation of the border,” the Security Council Secretary stated.

Grigoryan clarified that this concerns the border area from Lake Sevan to Shorja.
