SPORT: Aronian Wins First Day of the Finals

In the first day of the finals of the Goldmoney Asian Rapid online chess tournament, Levon Aronian triumphed over Russian Vladislav Artemiev with a score of 2.5:1.5. The Armenian grandmaster won the third game with white pieces, while the other games ended in draws.

The second match of the finals will take place on July 4th.

It is noteworthy that in the semi-finals, Levon Aronian eliminated the world champion, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, in a tiebreak.

In the preliminary phase of the tournament, Aronian scored 10.5 points out of 15 possible, advancing to the playoffs in first place. He had previously defeated Indian Arjun Erigaisi in the quarter-finals.

The Goldmoney Asian Rapid is the 7th stage of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, organized by Magnus Carlsen. The total prize fund is $1.6 million, with the Goldmoney Asian Rapid's share being $100,000.
