Yuri Dokhoyan Dies from Coronavirus
Yuri Dokhoyan, the former head coach of the Russian national chess team and international grandmaster, has passed away in Moscow, according to the press service of the Russian Chess Federation. The cause of Dokhoyan's death was coronavirus.
“Grandmaster Yuri Dokhoyan was a talented chess theorist. For many years, he was the coach and fighter of the 13th world champion Garry Kasparov. After Kasparov's departure from professional sports, he coached leading Russian female chess players Tatyana and Nadezhda Kosintseva,” the press release states.
From 2006 to 2011, Dokhoyan led the Russian women's national team, which under his leadership won the championship title at the World Olympiad for the first time in 2010. From 2011 to 2015, Yuri Dokhoyan headed the Russian men's national team, sharing first place with the Armenian team at the 2012 World Olympiad but finishing second based on tiebreak criteria.
