Charges Filed Against Two Individuals for Alleged Electoral Bribery
In the city of Vedi, Ararat Province of Armenia, sufficient evidence has been gathered in a criminal case initiated by the Ararat division of the Police concerning incidents of bribing voters and receiving bribes. The evidence supports that on June 20, 2021, A.S., a resident of Vedi, provided a bribe of 30,000 AMD to M.S., another resident of the same community, to ensure voting in favor of a political party alliance during the snap elections for the National Assembly of Armenia.
According to the Special Investigative Service, M.S. spent 20,000 AMD of the bribe amount on personal needs. Subsequently, on June 19, 2021, M.S. reported the incident to the Ararat Police, presenting the remaining bribe amount of 10,000 AMD.
On June 22, 2021, A.S. was charged under the second part of Article 154.2 of the RA Criminal Code, while M.S. was charged under the first part of the same article. The measure of restraint chosen for the accused is a signed commitment not to leave.
The pre-trial investigation in the case is ongoing.
