Ter-Petrosyan's Subtle Remark: 'Zhoghovurd'
The daily newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' writes that the greatest manifestation of power display in Armenia is the dissemination of rumors about this or that political figure supposedly holding the 'dabro' of Russia, suggesting they have traveled to Moscow, which is then followed by politically semi-secret assumptions.
The absurdity reaches the point where it seems as if the Russian political elite, in the midst of their pressing affairs, is holding very important meetings with minor and medium-level politicians visiting from Armenia. Of course, this is not the reality—though it cannot be excluded that there are indeed connections with officials from the mid-level Russian power structures.
Recently, during a broadcast on Public Television, Armenia's political heavyweight and first president, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, directly stated that Russia speaks directly with only one person in Armenia—Nikol Pashinyan. It is with him that they coordinate and exchange information regarding their plans for Armenia and the region at large.
In conjunction with the sharp criticisms aimed at the Prime Minister, Ter-Petrosyan's statements suggest that despite increasing claims that the Russians want to replace Pashinyan, either those claims are inaccurate, or they are not entirely true.
In any case, Ter-Petrosyan clearly declared ahead of the snap elections that among the current candidates, if there is any individual with whom the Russians are negotiating or collaborating, that person is Nikol Pashinyan. As for why he made such statements, that is the second side of the question.
