Biden Back in the Spotlight: 'First Kneeling, Then Focusing on a Veteran's Daughter'
U.S. President Joe Biden has once again found himself at the center of discussions after visiting the Langley-Eustis Joint Base in Virginia on May 28, according to Daily Mail.
It is noted that Biden first decided to take a photo with military personnel against the backdrop of F-35 Lightning II fighter jets. During this time, the president, leaning on a chair, was the only one present who kneeled in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
This incident was followed by the president’s speech. Although everything seemed to proceed normally at first, after a while, the 79-year-old president turned his attention to the daughter of one of the veterans, who was sitting directly across from him. Specifically, Biden remarked that he really liked her “hair clips” and that the young lady resembled “a 19-year-old little lady sitting with her legs crossed.”
These comments by the American leader have sparked a series of discussions. As noted by The New York Post, this is not the first time the president has focused on women during his speeches. Notably, while serving as vice president under former President Barack Obama, Biden became known for standing behind Carter's wife, Stephanie, during the defense secretary's swearing-in ceremony in 2015, placing his hands on her shoulders and occasionally whispering in her ear. Earlier that same year, Biden also whispered to the 13-year-old daughter of Senator Chris Coons and kissed her on the head.
