Do You Take Vazgen's Words Seriously Now? Levon Ter-Petrosyan

If I had not resigned, there would have been a civil war in Armenia. This was stated by the first president, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, in an interview with Petros Ghazaryan while responding to the question of why he resigned.

In response to Ghazaryan's remark that Vazgen Sargsyan had stated that if Levon Ter-Petrosyan stayed, they would leave, the first president said: "So what? When did he make that statement? After my resignation? What’s the conclusion? Do you take Vazgen’s words seriously now? Vazgen understood his mistake, and that’s why he needed to find such an excuse. He realized his mistake very quickly. Why then did he form an alliance with Demirchyan and, in fact, tried to neutralize Robert Kocharian?"

Regarding the assumption that it was a struggle for power, Ter-Petrosyan noted that this could be said about everyone, but it could not be said about Vazgen Sargsyan: "He could sincerely be confused, but in a struggle for power, he would never betray the interests of the nation. It would be unjust to say that about him. He was sincerely confused. Later, he understood everything in a very short time. I know his mental state."
