US Congress Members Call for End to Any Military Aid to Azerbaijan

Dozens of members of the U.S. House of Representatives have joined David Valadao's call to the Biden administration to end any form of military assistance to Azerbaijan. In a letter sent by the Congress members on May 24, they also urged President Biden to urgently reconsider the decision to waive the Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, which restricts military aid to Azerbaijan. This was reported by the Armenian National Committee of America.

“Not even a single dollar collected from American taxpayers should be sent to arm the oil-rich Azerbaijani armed forces, a country that subjected Artsakh to ethnic cleansing, continues to hold Armenian prisoners of war, and has now occupied territory in the Republic of Armenia,” said Valadao.

He emphasized that if Biden does not uphold Section 907, then the U.S. Congress must legally prohibit any kind of weapons or assistance to the Aliyev regime.

The Congress members' letter notes that Azerbaijan continues to play a destabilizing role in the region, attacking Armenians in their own homeland and undermining efforts for a peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. “We call for an immediate halt to any U.S. military or security assistance to Azerbaijan,” concludes the letter.
