Suren Sarksyan: "We now have an exclusively new situation and must correctly orient ourselves in this direction"

Today we will try to understand what policy the United States will pursue under the new administration regarding Armenia and the region in general. We will also attempt to discern Turkey's policy in our region and how aligned the interests of the US and Turkey are. This was stated by political scientist Suren Sarksyan during a press briefing at the first Armenian-American political forum.

He noted that the purpose of today's forum is to comprehend the processes occurring in our region and especially what interests the United States has regarding the recent events.

"We will attempt to understand global regional issues, and there will be a rather broad discussion to understand our place, role, and significance in the region. The US and Turkey are NATO allies, and although the countries currently have strained relations with each other, everyone understands that the military relations between these two countries will continue in the future,” he said.

According to Sarksyan, it is crucial to also understand our own actions, so that it is clear how Armenia should establish its foreign policy priorities to adequately respond to global challenges.

"First and foremost, Armenia needs to have a clear agenda in its foreign policy. The tasks facing Armenia will be far more complicated than those pursued in the external policies of the last 30 years. We now have an exclusively new situation and must correctly orient ourselves in this direction to avoid even more fateful mistakes," he stated and added that it is very important to understand the position of the Armenian authorities regarding the Artsakh issue, though there is currently no response to this matter.
