Artak Tovmasyan Will Not Participate in Parliamentary Snap Elections
Member of the "Third Force" civic initiative, Artak Tovmasyan, has issued a statement:
"Ladies and gentlemen, dear compatriots, my words may differ slightly in content from the speeches made by political figures during these days, which are consumed by dirty political games, elections, and campaigning. Considering geopolitical developments, external threats, and internal political arrangements in Armenia, and analyzing all possible developments, I am convinced that holding parliamentary snap elections in Armenia is dangerous. It carries risks, including from external dangers to civil conflicts. I have repeatedly stated this in my previous speeches and specifically emphasized the dangers these elections pose to our state and statehood. For me, the chair and position have never mattered and do not matter; I have no motivation to strive for them. I repeat once again, in the conditions of a war-torn and unfinished war, our state is not ready for snap elections.
Today we must solve the issues facing our homeland, not weave intrigues against one another and again divide ourselves into this or that ideological team. This is why I propose we rise above fragmentation, shed hatred and malice. We must clearly understand the real risks and threats facing our state and nation and distinguish the primary from the secondary at this fateful moment. I understand this and do not wish to participate in this 'feast.'
Let us unite, let us fight to preserve and develop our statehood, and simply love our homeland selflessly. Rest assured that together we can," the statement reads.
