«Aliyev Needs Armenia to Close the Artsakh Issue Itself»: Sarkis Hovsepyan

“In short, Aliyev is saying: give up on Artsakh, recognize Azerbaijan's territorial integrity including Artsakh, agree that the issue of Artsakh is resolved and closed, and there will be peace, gas, trade, construction materials, etc. The demarcation and delimitation in this situation is essentially the implementation of Aliyev's demands. Under threat and blackmail, without fulfilling previous agreements, to close the topic with Armenia's own hand. I don't know how that benefits Armenia 100 percent, but it benefits Azerbaijan 180 percent. So, Aliyev needs Armenia to close the Artsakh issue itself, after which neither the international community, nor the Minsk Group, nor Armenia will have a role to play. What else can they do if the parties have reached an agreement? The issue of Artsakh and the people of Artsakh will become purely an internal matter for Azerbaijan. This is the entire purpose of the document, which is declared to be in Armenia's interests.

If there are people who believe that this is in Armenia's interests, then let them have the courage to say that recognizing Artsakh as part of Azerbaijan is in Armenia's interests, let them declare that they consider the Artsakh issue as an internal matter for Azerbaijan, because that will be the consequence.”
