What Consequences Will the Document to be Signed by Pashinyan Have for Armenia? V. Geghamyan
Turkologist Varoujan Geghamyan wrote on his Facebook page: "I will explain point by point what consequences the document that capitulator N. Pashinyan is preparing to sign will have for Armenia.
- Armenia recognizes Azerbaijan's territorial integrity within the borders dictated by Azerbaijan. This includes all disputed territories, which will go to Azerbaijan.
- By recognizing Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, Armenia definitively renounces the Armenian Nagorno-Karabakh. As a result, the Armenian population of Artsakh will be completely displaced.
- Armenia is ceding a number of territories in the Tavush and Ararat regions to Azerbaijan (see the attached maps by Sedrak Mkrtchyan marking the ceded areas), which were controversially assigned to Soviet Azerbaijan during various years in the Soviet era. Azerbaijan refuses to give Armenia the Armenian enclave (Artsvashen). Even if that were to happen, no Armenian would settle in Artsvashen, which is about 7 km away from Armenia and completely surrounded by Azerbaijan. This means that we gain nothing in return for our concessions.
- As a result of territorial concessions, we get the direct military presence of Azerbaijan-Turkey in the Tavush, Ararat, and Vayots Dzor regions, which will try to deepen their presence and exert pressure on Armenia at every suitable opportunity.
- Because of these territorial concessions, Armenia loses the security of its two main routes connecting it to the outside world. The Goris-Kapan section of the road with Iran has been under Turkish control since December, and with new concessions, the road connecting to Georgia will also fall under Turkish control (thus killing the "North-South" road). In other words, the so-called "transport blockade" turns into a complete blockade of Armenia in reality.
- Armenia gives a corridor with special status through Syunik to Turkey and Azerbaijan, which is enshrined in the capitulation document of November 9. Armenia receives nothing similar from Azerbaijan. Roads passing through Azerbaijan are not only unbeneficial but also lack any security guarantees for Armenians.
- Azerbaijan and Turkey will exert pressure through various means to force us to abandon our own army (the two countries are already working on this issue, and the local occupying regime has begun to reduce the number of soldiers). We will be deprived of any means to resist.
As a result, Armenia will lose its geopolitical weight and will definitively lose Syunik over the next five years, turning into a colony of Turkey and Azerbaijan. Formally, we will still have a state (flag, coat of arms, anthem, etc.), but in reality, we will be entirely dependent on the will of Turkey and Azerbaijan, who will dictate their conditions for our existence.
Let me remind you that the existence of an independent and strong Armenian state in this region is unacceptable according to their plans; they will systematically weaken Armenia.
If you think that even under such humiliating conditions you can securely earn your bread and sleep safely, you are gravely mistaken. Don’t believe it? Ask the Greek Cypriots, the Armenians of Syria, or the residents of Syunik.

Explain this to your friends, relatives, and self-organize; don’t wait for anyone. Don’t be tempted by cheap blackmail. There are bad and good leaders in Armenia, but the traitor is only one, and he must be stopped. It is my duty to warn that Armenia may never recover from this second capitulation."
