Israeli Authorities Confirm Decision to Establish Ceasefire
The Israeli government has decided to halt airstrikes directed at the Gaza Strip. This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing an Israeli television channel.
Reports state that on Thursday evening, the government convened a meeting focused on further actions in the Gaza Strip. Local media had earlier indicated that the heads of the security agencies and ministers would discuss the issue of a unilateral ceasefire.
At the same time, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz stated that he is ready to expand the military campaign against Hamas.
Following clashes that began last week between Palestinians and Israelis, the number of casualties on the Palestinian side has surpassed 220, including 63 children and more than 34 women. Approximately 1,500 Palestinians have been injured, while the Israeli side has reported 12 casualties, including 2 children, with at least 300 injured.
Tensions in Jerusalem began on May 7. Clashes erupted between Arab youth and police on the evening of May 8 and continued, spreading to the Temple Mount and the Al-Aqsa Mosque area. They peaked on May 10, coinciding with the Jewish celebration of Jerusalem Day.
