No Decision Yet on Opening Stepanakert Airport, Babayan Says
The operation of Stepanakert Airport will become a crucial component in maintaining peace and stability in the region. This was stated by Artsakh's Foreign Minister David Babayan in an interview with Factinfo, noting that the airport could serve as an important infrastructure for economic revival.
“Of course, we are interested in operating the airport, but at this moment, there are no specific steps in that direction. However, I believe it is just a matter of time. Currently, Russian peacekeepers are stationed near the airport, meaning that the infrastructure is not inactive. Let’s see when and how this infrastructure will operate,” Babayan emphasized.
It is worth mentioning that Stepanakert Airport was renovated and ready to accept flights back in 2012, but this did not happen due to Azerbaijan's objections.
