Harutyunyan and Shoigu Discuss the Situation in Syunik Province
On May 14, a phone conversation took place between acting Minister of Defense of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Russian Defense Minister, General Sergey Shoigu. This was reported by Armenia's Ministry of Defense.
The defense leaders of the strategic allied countries discussed the situation that has arisen in Syunik Province.
Vagharshak Harutyunyan presented to his Russian counterpart the actions taken by the Armenian side in the current situation, stating that in all areas, including Lake Sev, where Azerbaijanis have intruded, the entire terrain, military personnel, and their supply routes are under the full control of the Armenian army.
The head of the Armenian defense department emphasized the necessity for a peaceful resolution of the situation, while simultaneously deeming any encroachment on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia unacceptable.
During the phone conversation, Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Sergey Shoigu also discussed Armenian-Russian military cooperation, the mission of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Artsakh, as well as a number of issues related to regional security.
