3 Armenian Footballers Receive Compensation from FIFA

Argishti Petrosyan, defender for Van, Abraham Portugal, forward for Urartu, and former Alashkert midfielder Aram Hovsepyan have received compensation from FIFA.

The three players had approached the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro), which provides compensation through a fund created in collaboration with FIFA for footballers who have not received their salaries.

These players had gone months without salaries while playing for Yerevan. Following an investigation that lasted about 1.5 years, the application of the Armenian footballers was partially satisfied, and their debts were written off by approximately 70-80 percent.

The budget of the joint FIFA and FIFPro fund amounts to 5 million euros, distributed among about 1,100 footballers. A prerequisite for the application’s approval was that the player must present written proof of not receiving their salary. Payments were made to those footballers whose indebted clubs had either suspended their activities or had gone bankrupt altogether.
