Test Samples from Sisian Water Do Not Meet Drinking Water Requirements, Ministry of Health
In the Sisian municipality, information regarding the incidents of intestinal infectious diseases has been reported. As of May 13 at 14:00, there have been 370 cases exhibiting symptoms characteristic of intestinal infections, of which 7 patients are currently being treated in the hospital. The Ministry of Health of Armenia reports that their condition is assessed as moderate. Other residents are receiving outpatient treatment.
Laboratory investigations of drinking water and patient biological samples have revealed that samples taken on May 11 do not meet the requirements for drinking water according to microbiological indicators. Moreover, intestinal pathogenic microorganisms have been identified in the patients' biological samples, including bacteria such as Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, Yersinia enterocolitica, and Campylobacter, as well as viruses like Norovirus and Adenovirus. This is characteristic of outbreaks of intestinal infectious diseases caused by waterborne factors.
