Long-term peace establishment requires addressing the consequences of recent armed aggression: Artsakh Foreign Ministry

On May 12, 1994, thanks to the mediation efforts of the Russian Federation, a permanent trilateral agreement on a complete ceasefire and cessation of hostilities came into effect, signed by the Republic of Artsakh, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. On this occasion, the Artsakh Foreign Ministry issued a statement:

“On September 27, 2020, with the direct involvement of Turkey and international terrorists, Azerbaijan unleashed a new large-scale military aggression against Artsakh, grossly violating the trilateral ceasefire agreement of May 12, 1994, and subsequent agreements. The outcomes of Azerbaijan’s new armed aggression against Artsakh are illegal, as they are the result of Azerbaijan’s unlawful use of force, as well as gross violations of human rights. Attempts by Baku to cement these imposed and therefore illegal realities through the use of force are unacceptable, unviable, and must be condemned and rejected by the relevant international organizations and all responsible members of the international community, as law does not arise from violations.

In our view, the establishment of long-term peace requires addressing the consequences of the recent armed aggression, including the de-occupation of the territories of the Republic of Artsakh, the release of prisoners of war and hostages, as well as conducting negotiations in good faith under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group for the comprehensive resolution of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict.”
