Azerbaijan Sets Goal to Maximize Gains from Processes with Armenia by June 20: Abrahamyan
Recently, Azerbaijan has been trying to increase pressure on Armenia, and it is no coincidence that claims regarding the 'Zangezur Corridor' have taken various forms. This was stated by Tigran Abrahamyan, head of the 'Henkak' analytical center, on his Facebook page.
'Azerbaijan is in a hurry because early elections are expected in Armenia, and the likelihood of their preferred candidate losing is increasing. The problem is not what Azerbaijan is doing to assist this government; rather, the issue is that Azerbaijan needs the reproduction of Armenia's current authorities more than ever to fully secure its regional ambitions.
Key actors positioned in the Armenian opposition are well-known in Azerbaijan, and it is clear that their rise to power does not align with Turkish-Azerbaijani calculations. In this situation, Azerbaijan has set itself at least two minimum goals. By June 20, the date of the early elections, to extract maximum benefits from the processes with Armenia or to create a situation where it will be difficult for any subsequent governments to return to favorable negotiating positions. Secondly, within the framework of its capabilities, to indirectly or directly reinforce the positions of the current Armenian government.
Sadly, from the perspective of advancing the interests of Armenia and Artsakh, Armenia is in a secondary position, and in the bilateral Armenia-Azerbaijan format, Azerbaijan continues to be the one dictating the game and ensuring the main initiative, which promises new challenges for us,' Abrahamyan wrote.
