Armenian Embassy's Response to Vandalism at Cemetery in Russia
The Armenian Embassy in the Russian Federation has commented on the act of vandalism committed against an Armenian cemetery in the Yaroslavl region.
According to the information received, unknown individuals carried out acts of vandalism against gravestones in the Armenian cemetery located in the village of Kurbа, Yaroslavl region. As a result of this desecration, about 50 gravestones have been damaged.
We condemn the act of vandalism against the gravestones in the Armenian cemetery in the village of Kurbа. We believe that this clear provocative action is an affront to spiritual values and may lead to various consequences, negatively impacting efforts to maintain inter-ethnic harmony.
We are confident that the law enforcement agencies in the Yaroslavl region will take all necessary measures to hold the perpetrators accountable as soon as possible. In this regard, we are in constant contact with representatives of law enforcement and local authorities.
Such phenomena must be condemned in the appropriate manner to prevent their recurrence,” the embassy stated.
