Arman Tatoyan Considering Resignation, Says 'Hraparak'

The government was unable to hide its disdain for Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan yesterday. It is no secret that the Defender has become the only functioning institution in Armenia, especially after the war, and Tatoyan's work is noticeable against the backdrop of the authorities' inaction, leading to a significant rise in his reputation. The government representatives are taking this hard and publicly criticizing Tatoyan.

Yesterday, the discussion on the annual report of the Defender took place in a half-empty hall, with the empty seats of My Step faction members serving as a vivid indication. Tatoyan's fervent critic Maria Karapetyan attempted from the parliamentary podium to tarnish the Ombudsman's work, accusing him of conducting media terror.

In response, Tatoyan set the record straight in his concluding speech, stating that she is spreading manipulations and falsehoods. He also reprimanded Public Television, claiming that they have become “the mouthpiece of the government bodies” and that the work of the Defender is hardly covered.

The President of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, joined his protégé and tried to confront Tatoyan during the break in the hall about why he criticizes the authorities if they are loyal to him. In response, Tatoyan reminded him of Karapetyan's speech.

Mirzoyan continued to question what connection H1 (the Public Television) had with the government. Andranik Kocharyan, taking on the role of peacemaker, accompanied Tatoyan to his office. According to our information, Arman Tatoyan has been contemplating resigning for a considerable time and has received several offers to enter big politics.
