‘We Have Heard Promises of Genocide Recognition from Other Presidents, But I Believe This Time It Will Become Reality. Don't Disappoint Me, President Biden’ – Alexis Ohanian

American co-founder of Reddit, Alexis Ohanian, has expressed hope that U.S. President Joe Biden will finally recognize the historical truth of the Armenian Genocide on the occasion of its 106th anniversary.

“It seems that Joe Biden is finally prepared to recognize the Armenian Genocide; it would be the best gift of my lifetime,” Ohanian says in a video, noting that he is celebrating his 38th birthday today, April 24.

According to him, the denial of the Armenian Genocide is deeply rooted in the psyche of Armenians, as they have had to endure decades of denialism from others for over 100 years. “Due to political reasons, the U.S. has never recognized the Armenian Genocide, but I believe Joe Biden is ready to officially recognize it, which is the least we, as Americans, can do. It is an important step because the genocide is part of our identity as Armenians, especially for the diaspora, which has been passed down from generation to generation,” Ohanian noted.

He added that “for Armenians around the world, it is even more painful that these perpetrators have not accepted their guilt and have not been held accountable, including by the most powerful country in the world, the U.S.”

“This is an important step, and I don’t want to be disappointed, as we have heard the same promise from other presidents in the past. But I believe this time it will become reality, and I am extremely hopeful about it. Don't disappoint me, President Biden,” Ohanian concluded.
