My Heart Beats Like An Armenian's: President of the French Senate

The President of the Senate of the French Republic, Gérard Larcher, notes that he does not have Armenian roots, but at the Armenian Genocide Memorial, his heart beats like an Armenian's. The Senate president made this statement after paying tribute at Tsitsernakaberd.

“There are few places in the world that are comparable to this memorial. You enter here filled with emotion, being aware of what has happened, and you leave changed. I am not Armenian, nor do I have Armenian ancestry, but at this moment my heart beats like an Armenian’s,” said Larcher.

Addressing the second war in Artsakh, the Senate president stated that military operations, even if they have gone well, do not bring victory, and this memorial teaches about just that. “After 1915, many Armenians sought refuge in France. We can imagine how much France owes them. Twenty years ago, France recognized the Armenian Genocide, an initiative that took place under President Jacques Chirac. This history compels us, as European French people, to never forget it. Tomorrow morning, in France, we will remember the victims of the Nazi deportations. Together, we must remember human dignity and democratic values. Long live the Republic of Armenia,” concluded the Senate president.
