10,000 People Participate in Torchlight March in Yerevan to Commemorate 1.5 Million Armenians Killed by Ottoman Turkey, Al Arabiya Reports
The authoritative Al Arabiya publication has covered the Armenian Genocide and the torchlight march held in Yerevan on April 23.
"On Friday, around 10,000 people participated in a torchlight march in the capital of Armenia to commemorate the memory of more than 1.5 million Armenians killed by Ottoman Turkey over a century ago," the newspaper's website stated.
The paper noted that the Armenian Genocide is the first genocide of the 20th century. Al Arabiya added that while Turkey acknowledges numerous killings that occurred in 1915, it denies the term genocide, arguing that the figures are exaggerated and that these deaths were a consequence of civil unrest during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
In conclusion, the newspaper mentioned that Turkey continues to refuse recognition of the Armenian Genocide, despite it being recognized by over 20 countries, and added that U.S. President Joe Biden is set to officially recognize the genocide, becoming the first U.S. leader to use that term.
